Size

A fiber-based foundation built for turned-edge appliqué and English paper piecing. It holds its shape under dense or heavy stitching while staying soft enough to handle comfortably, and the light temporary fuse keeps pieces from shifting or pulling as you work.

What sets it apart: the fibers are partially water-soluble. Dampen your stitching lines and the foundation releases cleanly, leaving your stitches undisturbed.

Printing Your Pattern

  • Set your printer's paper feed to "Decorative" or "Heavy Paper" if that option is available.
  • No heavy-paper setting? Feed one sheet at a time instead.
  • Print or copy your foundation pattern directly onto the sheet.

Foundation & Paper Piecing

  1. Print your pattern onto the stabilizer.
  2. Cover the numbered sections with your fabrics in order until the block is finished.
  3. To remove: lightly dampen the stitching lines with a wet sponge or cotton swab, then tear the foundation away. Your stitches stay put.

Or leave it in. The water-soluble fibers dissolve in the wash, and the fibers that remain add a subtle loft to the block. It's worth stitching a test block first so you know you like the result before committing a whole quilt to it.

Decorative & Satin Stitching

  1. Place a single layer beneath your fabric and stitch as usual.
  2. Dampen just the stitched area with a sponge or cotton swab and pull the stabilizer away — delicate heirloom, satin, and decorative stitches hold their shape.
