- Mettler Silk-Finish is a 50 weight 2-ply 100% long-staple mercerized cotton thread on a 164yd (150m) spool.
- Mercerizing gives it the soft sheen the line is named for, and a supple hand that sits flat in a seam rather than standing proud of it.
- A 50wt is fine enough to disappear into piecing and applique, which is why it is the default choice for quilt tops where the stitching should not compete with the fabric.
- Long-staple cotton means far less lint in the bobbin case and fewer stops to clean out the machine.
- Equally at home in garment sewing, English paper piecing, machine applique and general sewing.
- Pairs with a 70/10 or 80/12 needle for piecing; go up to a 90/14 for heavier fabrics.
