Aurifil 40wt Mako Cotton Thread

Aurifil’s 40 weight cotton thread is slightly thicker than the 50wt, offering just the right amount of definition for quilting, embroidery, and topstitching. It's a 2-ply thread made from 100% long-staple Egyptian Mako cotton, prized for its strength, low lint, and smooth finish.

This weight is Aurifil’s go-to for machine embroidery but is also popular for machine quilting, topstitching, hand piecing, cross stitch, lacework, and machine applique. Quilters and sewists reach for 40wt when they want their stitching to stand out just a bit more without overwhelming the design.

We carry all colors in the 1094 yard spool, plus a selection of 150 yard small spools and 5140 yard cones for high-volume projects.

Tip: For even bolder stitching, try 28wt. For a finer finish, check out 50wt.
